Ingredients
Filling
- 5 heaping cups fresh strawberries, hulled and quartered
- 1/4 cup granulated white sugar
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 3 Tablespoons cornstarch
Topping
- 1 cup all purpose flour
- 3/4 cup old fashioned oats
- 2/3 cup granulated white sugar
- 2/3 cup packed brown sugar
- 1/2 teaspoon salt
- 3/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/2 cup (1 stick) butter, melted
Instructions
- Preheat and prepare dish: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Grease a deep dish pie plate or a large baking dish with butter or cooking spray to prevent sticking and set aside.
- Prepare the strawberry filling: In a large bowl, combine the chopped strawberries with 1/4 cup granulated sugar. Mix thoroughly until the strawberries have absorbed the sugar. Add cornstarch and vanilla extract, then stir carefully until all the strawberries are evenly coated with the mixture. Pour this strawberry filling into the prepared baking dish evenly.
- Make the crisp topping: In a medium bowl, mix together the flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, salt, and cinnamon. Pour the melted butter over the dry ingredients and stir well until the mixture becomes crumbly and all dry ingredients are coated uniformly.
- Assemble and bake: Sprinkle the crumbly topping evenly over the strawberry filling in the baking dish. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes, or until the fruit is bubbly and the topping turns golden brown.
- Cool and serve: Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly before serving. For an extra indulgent treat, serve warm with a scoop of vanilla ice cream on top. Enjoy your strawberry crisp!
Notes
- Use fresh, ripe strawberries for the best flavor and sweetness.
- Ensure the butter is fully melted to create a well-coated crisp topping.
- If you prefer a less sweet dessert, you can reduce the amount of sugar slightly.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently before serving.
- For a nutty topping, consider adding chopped nuts such as pecans or walnuts to the crisp mixture.
