Description

A comforting and easy slow cooker recipe featuring frozen meatballs cooked in a savory brown gravy with onion soup mix and ketchup. Perfect over egg noodles or mashed potatoes, this Salisbury steak meatballs dish is ideal for effortless weeknight dinners with tender meatballs and rich, thickened gravy.

Ingredients

Meatballs

  • 1 bag (26 oz) frozen meatballs (about 30-35 meatballs)

Gravy Sauce

  • 2 cups reduced-sodium beef broth
  • 1 packet brown gravy mix
  • 1 packet onion soup mix
  • 2 tablespoons ketchup
  • 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce

Thickening Slurry

  • 2 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons cold water

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Slow Cooker: Spray the insert of the slow cooker with nonstick cooking spray to prevent sticking and make cleanup easier.
  2. Add Meatballs: Place the frozen meatballs directly into the slow cooker, spreading them evenly across the bottom.
  3. Mix and Pour Sauce: In a mixing bowl, whisk together the beef broth, brown gravy mix, onion soup mix, ketchup, and Worcestershire sauce until fully combined. Pour this sauce over the meatballs and gently stir to coat them evenly.
  4. Cook the Meatballs: Cover the slow cooker with the lid and cook on LOW heat for 5 to 6 hours, allowing the meatballs to heat through and the flavors to meld beautifully.
  5. Thicken the Gravy: About 10 minutes before serving, create a slurry by mixing the cornstarch and cold water in a small bowl until smooth. Stir this mixture into the slow cooker and let it cook uncovered for 10 minutes, until the gravy has thickened to the desired consistency.
  6. Serve: Spoon the Salisbury steak meatballs with gravy over cooked egg noodles or creamy mashed potatoes. Garnish with chopped parsley if desired, and enjoy your hearty meal.

Notes

  • Using reduced-sodium beef broth helps control the saltiness of the dish, but regular broth can also be used if preferred.
  • If you want a thicker gravy, you can increase the cornstarch to 3 tablespoons mixed with cold water.
  • This recipe works well with any frozen meatballs; beef, turkey, or a blend.
  • For extra flavor, sprinkle fresh parsley on top before serving.
  • Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated gently on the stovetop or microwave.
