Description

Tender and flavorful slow cooker BBQ beef brisket cooked low and slow with a blend of spices, liquid smoke, and Worcestershire sauce, then finished with a rich barbecue sauce. Perfect for a comforting family meal with minimal prep.

Ingredients

Spice Rub

  • 2 to 3 pounds beef brisket
  • 1 Tablespoon dried thyme leaves
  • 1 Tablespoon paprika
  • 2 teaspoons freshly ground black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons salt
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cumin

Cooking Liquids

  • 1 cup water
  • 1 ½ teaspoons liquid smoke flavoring
  • 3 Tablespoons Worcestershire sauce

Sauce

  • 1 bottle (18 ounces) barbecue sauce

Instructions

  1. Prepare Spice Rub: Combine the thyme, paprika, black pepper, salt, onion powder, garlic powder, and cumin in a small bowl, then thoroughly rub the mixture all over the beef brisket to evenly coat it with the spices.
  2. Slow Cook Brisket: Pour 1 cup of water into the bottom of a large 7-quart slow cooker. Place the seasoned brisket into the water, then drizzle the liquid smoke and Worcestershire sauce evenly over the brisket. Cover with the lid and cook on Low heat for 8 to 10 hours until the meat is tender.
  3. Remove Excess Fat and Shred Meat: Carefully transfer the cooked brisket to a large platter. Allow the fat to settle at the bottom and skim it off easily. Discard the fat, then shred the brisket using forks or tongs into bite-sized pieces.
  4. Combine with Barbecue Sauce: Return the shredded brisket to the slow cooker, pour the barbecue sauce over the meat, and gently stir to coat it evenly. Cover and cook for an additional 30 minutes or until the sauce is heated through and the brisket is infused with the smoky BBQ flavors.
  5. Serve: Serve the warm BBQ beef brisket immediately as a main dish, perfect for sandwiches or alongside your favorite sides.

Notes

  • For best results, choose a brisket with some marbling to ensure tenderness and flavor.
  • If you prefer a smokier flavor, you can add a bit more liquid smoke, but use sparingly to avoid overpowering the dish.
  • Leftover brisket can be refrigerated for up to 3 days or frozen for longer storage.
  • Adjust the cooking time based on your slow cooker; some may cook faster or slower.
  • For a thicker sauce, remove the lid during the last 15 minutes of cooking to allow some liquid to evaporate.
