Description

This Simple Salisbury Steak recipe features flavorful ground beef patties cooked to perfection in a rich brown gravy. Ready in under 20 minutes, it’s a comforting, classic dish perfect for a quick weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

For the Patties

  • 1 lb Lean Ground Beef
  • 1/3 cup Bread Crumbs
  • 2 tsp Ketchup
  • 1 tsp Mustard
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire Sauce
  • 1/2 tsp Garlic Powder
  • 1/2 tsp Onion Powder
  • Salt and Pepper (to taste)

For the Gravy

  • 2 packets Brown Gravy Mix
  • 2 cups Hot Water
  • 1 tsp Ketchup
  • 1/2 tsp Worcestershire Sauce

For Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon Olive Oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Patties: In a large bowl, combine the ground beef, bread crumbs, ketchup, mustard, Worcestershire sauce, garlic powder, onion powder, salt, and pepper. Use your hands to gently mix and massage the ingredients together until fully incorporated without overworking the meat.
  2. Heat the Skillet: Place a large skillet over medium heat and add 1 tablespoon of olive oil. Allow the oil to heat until shimmering but not smoking.
  3. Cook the Patties: Form the meat mixture into patties and place them in the hot skillet. Cook on each side until the patties are browned and no longer pink inside, approximately 4-5 minutes per side.
  4. Reduce Heat: Lower the skillet temperature to low to prepare for simmering the gravy.
  5. Make the Gravy: In a bowl, whisk together the brown gravy mix with hot water until smooth. Stir in the ketchup and Worcestershire sauce to enhance the flavor.
  6. Simmer the Patties in Gravy: Pour the prepared gravy over the cooked patties in the skillet. Allow the mixture to simmer on low heat until the gravy thickens and is warmed through, about 5-7 minutes, basting the patties occasionally.

Notes

  • For extra flavor, sauté some sliced onions and mushrooms in the skillet before cooking the patties and add them to the gravy.
  • You can use low-sodium gravy mix to reduce salt content.
  • To keep patties moist, avoid overworking the meat when mixing ingredients.
  • Serve Salisbury steak with mashed potatoes or steamed vegetables for a complete meal.
