Description
These No-Roll Sourdough Discard Crackers are a simple and delicious way to use up your sourdough starter discard. Crispy, golden, and seasoned with an optional Everything Bagel spice mix, these crackers are perfect for snacking or serving with dips. They require minimal ingredients and effort, and bake to a perfect thin and crunchy texture without any rolling or complicated steps.
Ingredients
Crackers
- 1 cup unfed sourdough starter (discard)
- 3 tablespoons melted butter
- 1/2 teaspoon fine sea salt
- 2 tablespoons Everything Bagel Seasoning (optional)
Instructions
- Preheat Oven: Set your oven to 300 degrees Fahrenheit to prepare for baking the crackers evenly at a low temperature.
- Mix Butter and Starter: Combine the melted butter with the room temperature sourdough discard in a mixing bowl until fully incorporated.
- Season the Dough: Add the fine sea salt to the mixture and stir well to distribute the seasoning evenly throughout the dough.
- Spread the Dough: Line a baking sheet with parchment paper and use an offset spatula to spread the dough very thinly and evenly over the surface. This ensures crispy, uniform crackers. Sprinkle the top with the optional Everything Bagel Seasoning for extra flavor.
- Bake the Crackers: Place the baking sheet in the preheated oven and bake for about 35 minutes, starting to check for doneness at 25 minutes to prevent overbaking. The crackers should be golden brown and crisp.
- Cool and Break: Remove the crackers from the oven and let them cool on the baking sheet for 10 minutes. Once cooled, break the large cracker sheet into smaller, bite-sized pieces.
- Serve and Enjoy: Enjoy the crispy sourdough crackers on their own or with your favorite dips or toppings.
Notes
- You can omit the Everything Bagel Seasoning for a plain cracker or use alternative seasonings like garlic powder, rosemary, or sesame seeds.
- Ensure the sourdough starter discard is at room temperature for easy mixing with the melted butter.
- Spreading the dough very thinly is key to achieving crisp crackers.
- Start checking the crackers at 25 minutes to avoid burning, as oven temperatures may vary.
- Store leftover crackers in an airtight container to maintain crispness for up to a week.
