Description

This Honey Garlic Chicken Breasts recipe features tender, boneless chicken breasts cooked to golden perfection and coated in a deliciously sticky and savory honey garlic sauce. With a balance of sweet honey, tangy rice vinegar, and savory soy sauce, this quick and easy dish is perfect for a flavorful weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Chicken

  • 1 pound boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 1/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Sauce and Cooking

  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 6 cloves garlic, thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon seasoned rice vinegar
  • 1/3 cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons butter (divided)

Garnish

  • Green onions for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prepare the chicken: Slice the chicken breasts into thinner pieces for quicker cooking. Season both sides with salt and pepper, then evenly coat each piece with the all-purpose flour, shaking off any excess flour.
  2. Cook the chicken: Heat olive oil and 1 tablespoon of butter in a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the floured chicken pieces and cook for 4-5 minutes per side or until they are golden brown and cooked through. Remove the chicken from the pan and set aside.
  3. Sauté garlic and make sauce: In the same pan, melt the remaining 1 tablespoon of butter over medium-low heat. Add the thinly sliced garlic and sauté until fragrant, about 30 to 60 seconds, being careful not to burn it. Add the soy sauce, seasoned rice vinegar, honey, and season with salt and pepper. Let the sauce simmer for 4 to 5 minutes or until it thickens slightly.
  4. Coat the chicken in sauce: Return the cooked chicken pieces to the pan and toss them in the thickened honey garlic sauce, cooking together for an additional minute so the chicken absorbs the flavors.
  5. Serve: Plate the sauced chicken breasts and garnish with sliced green onions for a fresh and vibrant finish. Serve immediately for the best taste.

Notes

  • For juicier chicken, do not overcook; chicken should reach an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C).
  • You can substitute rice vinegar with apple cider vinegar if unavailable.
  • Adjust honey quantity according to taste preference for sweetness.
  • This dish pairs well with steamed rice or sautéed vegetables.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free soy sauce or tamari and gluten-free flour.
