Description
These Grinch Heart Rice Krispies Treats are a festive and fun holiday dessert that combine classic marshmallow and cereal treats with a vibrant green color and a red candy heart center, perfect for Christmas celebrations.
Ingredients
Ingredients
- 3 tablespoons butter
- 1 package (10 oz., about 40 marshmallows or 4 cups miniature marshmallows)
- 6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
- Green food coloring (about 4-5 squirts or more, to desired shade)
- Small red candies (for heart centers)
Instructions
- Melt the butter: In a large saucepan, melt the 3 tablespoons of butter over low heat until fully melted, preparing the base for the marshmallow mixture.
- Add and melt marshmallows: Add the entire package of marshmallows to the melted butter and stir continuously until the marshmallows are fully melted and combined into a smooth, sticky mixture.
- Add green food coloring: Squirt 4 to 5 times of green food coloring into the marshmallow mixture, stirring well to achieve an even bright green color reminiscent of the Grinch. Add more food coloring if needed to deepen the shade.
- Stir in Rice Krispies cereal: Remove the saucepan from heat and gradually add the 6 cups of Rice Krispies cereal, stirring slowly and carefully to evenly coat all the cereal without crushing it.
- Spread mixture: Lay a sheet of wax paper on a cookie sheet and transfer the mixture onto it. Spread and press the mixture down to about an inch thick, creating an even layer for cutting.
- Cut out heart shapes: Using a heart-shaped cookie cutter, press firmly into the cooled but still pliable mixture on the wax paper to cut out individual heart shapes. Gently remove the excess mixture surrounding the hearts.
- Add red candies: Place a small red candy into the center of each Grinch heart treat, pressing down slightly so the candy adheres well and stays in place as a festive ‘heart’ detail.
Notes
- Use miniature marshmallows for easier melting and mixing.
- Adjust food coloring amount for preferred green intensity.
- Press treats firmly when spreading for easier cutting.
- Allow treats to cool slightly before cutting to avoid sticking and tearing.
- Store treats in an airtight container to keep them fresh for up to 3 days.
