Description
Garlic Bread Sloppy Joes combine the classic, comforting flavors of sloppy joes with crispy, buttery garlic bread, creating a deliciously indulgent and easy-to-make meal perfect for busy weeknights or casual gatherings.
Ingredients
Sloppy Joe Mixture
- 16 ounces (454 g) lean ground beef
- ¾ cup (204 g) ketchup
- 2 tablespoons (30 ml) Worcestershire sauce
- 1 tablespoon (15 g) yellow mustard
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ¼ teaspoon ground black pepper, or to taste
- 1/3 cup (79 ml) water
Bread and Toppings
- One 10-ounce frozen garlic bread or one 11.25-ounce box garlic Texas toast
- 1 cup (112 g) shredded cheddar cheese blend
Instructions
- Bake the Garlic Bread: Place the frozen garlic bread on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil for easier cleanup. Bake according to the package instructions until golden and crispy.
- Brown the Ground Beef: While the bread bakes, heat a medium skillet over medium-high heat. Add the ground beef and cook until no longer pink, about 5 minutes. Drain excess grease if necessary and return the pan to the stove.
- Prepare Sloppy Joe Sauce: Reduce heat to medium-low and add ketchup, Worcestershire sauce, yellow mustard, garlic powder, black pepper, and water to the skillet. Stir well to combine and simmer for 4 to 5 minutes until the mixture thickens, stirring occasionally. Add a splash of water if you prefer a saucier mixture. Turn off heat but keep the skillet on the stove.
- Preheat Broiler: Once the garlic bread is done, remove it from the oven, keeping it on the baking sheet. Adjust the oven rack to 3 to 4 inches from the broiler and preheat the broiler setting carefully using oven mitts.
- Assemble and Broil: Spread the sloppy joe mixture evenly over the garlic bread. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese on top. Place the baking sheet under the broiler for 2 to 3 minutes or until the cheese is bubbly and melted.
- Serve: Remove from the oven carefully, slice the garlic bread if not using individual pieces, and serve immediately for a delicious, hearty meal.
Notes
- Use lean ground beef to reduce excess grease and improve the texture of the sloppy joe mixture.
- Draining excess grease after browning the beef helps prevent the sauce from becoming too oily.
- If you prefer more sauce, add extra water during simmering to adjust consistency.
- Keep a close eye when broiling as cheese can brown quickly and potentially burn.
- For a vegetarian version, substitute ground beef with plant-based meat alternatives.
