Description

Delish Red Velvet Cupcakes are moist, tender, and richly flavored with a hint of cocoa, featuring a vibrant red color and a smooth cream cheese frosting. Perfect for celebrations or as a delightful treat to satisfy your sweet tooth with a classic Southern twist.

Ingredients

Dry Ingredients

  • 2.5 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 tablespoons unsweetened cocoa powder

Wet Ingredients

  • 1 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 cup buttermilk (room temperature)
  • 2 large eggs (room temperature)
  • 2 tablespoons red food coloring
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1 teaspoon white vinegar

Instructions

  1. Preheat Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a cupcake pan with cupcake liners to prepare for baking.
  2. Combine Dry Ingredients: In a large mixing bowl, sift together the all-purpose flour, granulated sugar, baking soda, salt, and unsweetened cocoa powder to ensure even distribution and a smooth batter.
  3. Mix Wet Ingredients: In a separate bowl, whisk together the vegetable oil, room temperature buttermilk, eggs, red food coloring, vanilla extract, and white vinegar until the mixture is smooth and well combined.
  4. Combine Wet and Dry: Gradually add the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients, gently mixing until just combined. Avoid overmixing to keep the cupcakes tender.
  5. Fill Cupcake Liners: Evenly divide the batter among the prepared cupcake liners, filling each about two-thirds full to allow space for rising.
  6. Bake: Bake in the preheated oven for approximately 18 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center of a cupcake comes out clean.
  7. Cool and Frost: Allow the cupcakes to cool completely in the pan set on a wire rack before frosting with cream cheese frosting or your preferred topping.

Notes

  • Ensure that the buttermilk and eggs are at room temperature to achieve the best texture.
  • Do not overmix the batter after combining wet and dry ingredients to maintain cupcake tenderness.
  • If you don’t have buttermilk, you can use 1 cup of milk mixed with 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or vinegar, let it sit for 5 minutes to curdle.
  • The white vinegar helps enhance the classic red velvet flavor and react with the baking soda for a better rise.
  • Store leftover cupcakes in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days or refrigerate for longer freshness.
