Description

These charming Ghost Cupcakes are a fun and festive treat perfect for Halloween or any spooky celebration. Made with vanilla cupcakes and frosting, topped with stacked marshmallows covered in almond paste, and finished with cute black eyes drawn in black fondant or icing, they delight both kids and adults with their playful ghostly appearance.

Ingredients

Base Cupcakes

  • 1 batch of basic vanilla cupcakes (12 cupcakes)

Frosting

  • 1 batch of vanilla frosting

Ghost Toppings

  • 12 small marshmallows
  • 12 large marshmallows
  • Almond paste (enough to cover 12 marshmallow stacks with thin rounds)
  • Black fondant or black colored frosting for drawing eyes

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Base: Bake a batch of your favorite basic vanilla cupcakes and prepare the vanilla frosting as per your recipe or package instructions. Allow cupcakes to cool completely before decorating.
  2. Frost the Cupcakes: Generously frost the cooled vanilla cupcakes with a layer of vanilla frosting, creating a smooth surface for the ghost toppings.
  3. Create the Ghost Body: Stack one small marshmallow on top of one large marshmallow to form a ghost shape, representing the body and head.
  4. Cover with Almond Paste: Roll out the almond paste thinly and cut out small circles that will cover each marshmallow stack completely, mimicking a ghostly drape.
  5. Attach the Ghost: Place each marshmallow stack covered with almond paste on top of each frosted cupcake.
  6. Add the Eyes: Using a toothpick, carefully draw two eyes on each ghost using black fondant or black colored frosting, adding personality and a spooky touch.

Notes

  • Ensure cupcakes are completely cooled before frosting to prevent melting the frosting.
  • Use fresh marshmallows for better stacking stability.
  • To make eyes, if fondant is not available, you can substitute with black gel icing or edible food markers.
  • Almond paste adds a subtle sweetness and smooth texture but can be replaced with white fondant if preferred.
  • For a vegan version, use egg-free cupcakes and vegan marshmallows.
