Description

These Crispy Honey Butter Chicken Bites are an easy, budget-friendly dinner featuring tender chicken pieces coated in a lightly seasoned flour and cornstarch mixture, pan-fried to perfection, and tossed in a luscious homemade honey butter sauce. Perfect for a quick meal that combines crispy texture with sweet and savory flavors, this dish pairs wonderfully with simple sides like rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Ingredients

For the Chicken Bites

  • 1 lb boneless, skinless chicken breasts or thighs, cut into bite-sized pieces
  • 1/2 cup all-purpose flour
  • 1/4 cup cornstarch
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 1/2 tsp black pepper
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • 1 tsp garlic powder

For Cooking

  • 2-3 tbsp oil for pan-frying (vegetable or canola oil recommended)

For the Honey Butter Sauce

  • 3 tbsp butter
  • 1/4 cup honey
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tbsp apple cider vinegar or lemon juice

Optional Garnishes

  • Fresh parsley, chopped
  • Sesame seeds

Instructions

  1. Season the Chicken: In a large bowl, combine the chicken pieces with salt, black pepper, paprika, and garlic powder. Mix well to evenly coat the chicken with the spices.
  2. Coat with Flour Mixture: In another bowl, mix together the all-purpose flour and cornstarch. Toss the seasoned chicken pieces in this dry mixture until they are fully coated. This step helps create a crisp crust when cooked.
  3. Pan-Fry the Chicken: Heat oil in a large skillet over medium-high heat. Add the coated chicken bites in a single layer without overcrowding the pan; cook in batches if needed. Fry the chicken until golden brown and crispy on all sides, turning occasionally, about 4-5 minutes per batch. Ensure the chicken is cooked through, then transfer to a plate lined with paper towels to drain excess oil.
  4. Prepare the Honey Butter Sauce: Reduce heat to medium and in the same skillet, melt the butter. Stir in the honey, soy sauce, and apple cider vinegar or lemon juice. Let the sauce simmer gently for 2-3 minutes until it slightly thickens and becomes glossy. Be careful not to let the honey burn.
  5. Coat the Chicken in Sauce: Return the crispy chicken bites back to the skillet and toss to coat them evenly with the honey butter sauce. Cook for another minute to allow the sauce to cling to the chicken.
  6. Garnish and Serve: Remove from heat and garnish with chopped fresh parsley and sesame seeds if desired. Serve immediately with your choice of sides such as steamed rice, mashed potatoes, or roasted vegetables.

Notes

  • For crispiest results, avoid overcrowding the pan when frying; cook chicken in batches.
  • If the honey butter sauce thickens too quickly or becomes too sticky, add a small splash of water to loosen it.
  • Chicken thighs tend to be juicier and more affordable than breasts, making them ideal for this recipe.
  • Adjust sweetness by using less honey or add chili flakes for a spicy kick.
  • Leftover chicken bites store well and can be reheated for lunch or dinner the next day.
