Description

Delight in these charming Chocolate Peanut Butter Valentine’s Hearts, a perfect homemade treat for your loved ones. Creamy peanut butter and melted butter blend with brown sugar, vanilla, and powdered sugar to form a decadent base, cut into adorable heart shapes and dipped in rich melted chocolate. These bite-sized delights are easy to make, firm up in the freezer, and bring a sweet, nutty indulgence to any Valentine’s Day celebration.

Ingredients

Peanut Butter Mixture

  • 1 cup creamy peanut butter, room temperature
  • ¼ cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • 2 cups powdered sugar

Chocolate Coating

  • 10-12 oz. chocolate, chopped into small pieces (half semi-sweet and half milk chocolate recommended) or good quality candy coating

Instructions

  1. Prepare the dish: Line an 8 x 8 inch dish with parchment paper, leaving an overhang on the sides for easy lifting later, and set aside.
  2. Mix the peanut butter base: In a mixing bowl, stir together the peanut butter, melted butter, brown sugar, vanilla extract, and salt until the sugar dissolves. Gradually mix in the powdered sugar until fully combined.
  3. Press into dish: Press the peanut butter mixture firmly into the prepared dish, smoothing the top with a spatula or your palms to create about a ½ inch thick layer.
  4. Freeze to firm up: Place the dish in the freezer until the mixture is firm enough to cut, approximately 1–2 hours.
  5. Prepare cutting surface: Line a baking tray with parchment paper and set aside.
  6. Cut into heart shapes: Use a small heart-shaped cookie cutter to cut hearts from the firm peanut butter mixture. Place the hearts on the prepared tray. Gather leftover scraps, knead them together, and cut out additional hearts.
  7. Freeze hearts: Return the cut hearts to the freezer until they are firm.
  8. Melt the chocolate: Gently melt the chocolate or candy coating over a double boiler or microwave until smooth, stirring frequently to avoid burning.
  9. Dip hearts in chocolate: Using a fork, dip each peanut butter heart completely into the melted chocolate. Gently tap the fork to remove excess chocolate. Work with a few hearts at a time to keep them firm. Place the coated hearts on the parchment-lined tray.
  10. Set the chocolate: Refrigerate the chocolate-covered hearts until the chocolate has fully set.
  11. Store: Store the finished hearts in the refrigerator or freeze them for longer storage.

Notes

  • Allow the peanut butter mixture to chill thoroughly to make cutting easier and prevent soft hearts.
  • Using candy coating can simplify the dipping process, especially for beginners.
  • Work quickly when dipping to prevent the peanut butter hearts from softening too much at room temperature.
  • Leftover scraps can be reworked to avoid waste and make more hearts.
  • Store these treats refrigerated for up to one week or freeze for extended freshness.
