Description

This Chicken Apple Sausage Sheet Pan Dinner is a comforting and flavorful one-pan meal featuring savory chicken apple sausages, sweet Pink Lady apples, tender onions, and garlicky notes all roasted to perfection. Topped with tangy sauerkraut and served with crusty bread, sharp cheddar cheese, and stone ground mustard, this dish combines sweet, savory, and tangy elements for a satisfying dinner that’s easy to prepare and clean up.

Ingredients

Sausage and Vegetables

  • 8 Chicken Apple Sausages
  • 2 Pink Lady Apples, sliced
  • 1 White Onion, sliced
  • 5 Garlic Cloves, whole

Seasonings and Additions

  • 2-3 tbsp Olive Oil
  • 1 tbsp Apple Cider Vinegar
  • 1.5 cups Sauerkraut
  • 1/8 tsp Salt

To Serve

  • Crusty Bread
  • Stone Ground Mustard
  • Sharp Cheddar Cheese

Instructions

  1. Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F (175°C) to prepare for roasting the ingredients evenly on the sheet pan.
  2. Prepare Apples, Onion, and Garlic: Slice the apples and onion, then place them in a large bowl along with the whole garlic cloves. Drizzle with 2-3 tablespoons of olive oil, add 1 tablespoon of apple cider vinegar, and sprinkle with 1/8 teaspoon salt. Toss everything well to combine and coat the ingredients evenly with the seasoning and oil.
  3. First Roast: Spread the apple, onion, and garlic mixture on a large baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Place in the preheated oven and bake for 15 minutes to start softening and caramelizing the produce.
  4. Add Sausages and Continue Roasting: Remove the baking sheet from the oven, toss the apples and onions gently, then arrange the 8 chicken apple sausages evenly among them on the pan. Return the baking sheet to the oven and roast for an additional 15 minutes, ensuring sausages are cooked through and nicely browned.
  5. Finish with Sauerkraut: Take the sheet pan out of the oven and evenly distribute 1.5 cups of sauerkraut over the top, allowing its flavors to meld with the warm sausage and vegetables.
  6. Serve: Serve the roasted sausages and apples hot, accompanied by crusty bread, sharp cheddar cheese, and stone ground mustard on the side to customize each bite with creamy, tangy, and spicy elements.

Notes

  • You can substitute chicken apple sausages with pork apple sausages if preferred.
  • To add extra crispiness, broil the sausages for 2-3 minutes at the end of cooking, watching carefully to avoid burning.
  • Use Pink Lady apples or other crisp, sweet apple varieties to balance the savory sausage flavors.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven or microwave.
  • For a gluten-free option, serve with gluten-free bread or skip the bread altogether.
