Description

This Blackberry Sage Cold Brew is a refreshing and delightful coffee drink combining bold cold brew coffee with muddled fresh blackberries and aromatic sage, sweetened naturally with maple syrup and topped with creamy barista-style oat milk foam. Perfect for warm mornings or as a cooling afternoon pick-me-up, this recipe offers a unique blend of fruity, herbal, and creamy flavors that elevate your daily coffee ritual.

Ingredients

Cold Brew Coffee

  • 1 cup coarsely ground dark roast coffee
  • 4 cups cold water

Muddled Fruit & Herbs

  • 1/2 cup fresh blackberries
  • 6 fresh sage leaves, divided
  • 2 tablespoons maple syrup, divided

Toppings & Assembly

  • 1 cup barista-style oat milk
  • Ice cubes, as needed
  • Additional blackberries and sage leaves for garnish

Instructions

  1. Brew the Cold Coffee: Combine 1 cup of coarsely ground dark roast coffee with 4 cups of cold water in a large jar. Stir gently, cover, and refrigerate for at least 12 hours to allow full cold brew extraction.
  2. Muddle the Berries & Herbs: In a bowl, muddle 1/2 cup of fresh blackberries with 4 sage leaves and 1 tablespoon of maple syrup until the berries release their juices and the sage oils infuse the mixture. Divide this muddled mixture evenly between two serving glasses.
  3. Strain the Cold Brew: After steeping, strain the cold brew concentrate using a coffee filter or fine mesh strainer to remove coffee grounds. Discard the grounds and set aside the smooth concentrate.
  4. Assemble the Drinks: Fill each glass containing the muddled blackberry mixture with ice cubes. Pour half of the cold brew coffee evenly over the ice and muddled fruit in each glass.
  5. Froth the Oat Milk: Warm the barista-style oat milk gently, either on the stovetop or microwave, until slightly warm but not boiling. Whisk in the remaining 1 tablespoon of maple syrup until smooth, then froth vigorously using a frother or by shaking in a sealed jar until creamy foam forms.
  6. Top with Foam: Spoon the oat milk foam over each cold brew glass. Garnish with the remaining 2 sage leaves and fresh blackberries to add a fresh aromatic touch.

Notes

  • Use coarsely ground coffee to prevent bitterness in cold brew.
  • Allow at least 12 hours of steeping for optimal cold brew flavor.
  • Muddling the berries and sage releases natural flavors and oils, enhancing the drink’s complexity.
  • Warm oat milk slightly before frothing for better, more stable foam.
  • Can be made without a frother by shaking oat milk vigorously in a sealed jar or whisking by hand.
  • Cold brew concentrate stores refrigerated up to one week; prepare foam fresh for best results.
  • Adjust maple syrup quantity to control sweetness according to preference.
