Instructions
- Sauté Vegetables: In a large skillet, cook the diced onions, celery, and green bell pepper for 7-8 minutes until they are translucent and softened. Once done, transfer them to the slow cooker.
- Brown Kielbasa: Using the same skillet, brown turkey kielbasa slices on all sides to develop flavor and texture. After browning, add the kielbasa to the slow cooker.
- Prepare and Brown Ground Turkey: Dissolve baking soda in water and pour the mixture over the ground turkey. This step helps tenderize the meat. Brown the turkey thoroughly in the skillet, then add it to the slow cooker.
- Add Remaining Ingredients: Spray the slow cooker with non-stick cooking spray. Then add all remaining ingredients, including diced tomatoes, kidney beans, black beans, chili beans, spices, crushed tortilla chips, and chicken broth. Stir everything well to combine.
- Cook the Chili: Cover and cook the chili on high for 3-4 hours or on low for 6-7 hours, allowing all flavors to meld and the chili to thicken.
Notes
- Ensure to rinse and drain canned beans to reduce sodium content and improve flavor.
- Sautéing the vegetables and browning the meat before slow cooking enhances the depth of flavor.
- Using crushed tortilla chips adds a subtle texture and thickening to the chili.
- Adjust the chili powder amount according to your preferred spice level.
