Description

These Baked Apple Cider Cake Mix Donuts with Maple Glaze are a delicious and easy treat combining the warm spices of cake mix with the sweet tang of apple cider. Baked to perfection and topped with a smooth maple glaze, they make the perfect dessert or snack for any occasion.

Ingredients

Donuts

  • Spray oil, for greasing
  • 1 box spice cake mix (Dunkin Hynes or similar)
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1/4 cup light olive oil
  • 3/4 cup apple cider

Maple Glaze

  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
  • 1/3 cup pure maple syrup
  • 1 cup confectioners’ sugar

Instructions

  1. Mix the Batter: In a stand mixer or with a hand mixer, combine the spice cake mix, 3 eggs, 1/4 cup light olive oil, and 3/4 cup apple cider. Mix for about 2 minutes until the batter is smooth. Be careful not to over-mix to avoid dense donuts.
  2. Prepare Donut Pan: Generously spray the donut sections of a baking pan with spray oil to prevent sticking.
  3. Fill Donut Pan: Transfer the batter into a large ziplock bag for easy handling. Snip a corner of the bag and pipe the batter into the donut pan sections, filling each about half full to prevent overflow during baking.
  4. Bake Donuts: Bake the donuts in a preheated oven at 350°F (175°C) for 10 to 12 minutes. Check doneness by inserting a toothpick into a donut; it should come out clean.
  5. Cool Donuts: Let the donuts cool in the pan for 1 minute before gently removing them using a spoon or flipping them onto a cooling rack to cool completely.
  6. Make Maple Glaze: In a bowl, combine the melted butter, confectioners’ sugar, pure maple syrup, and stir until the glaze is smooth and pourable.
  7. Glaze Donuts: Once the donuts are completely cooled, frost them with the maple glaze evenly for a sweet finishing touch.

Notes

  • Do not overfill the donut pan to avoid batter spilling over while baking.
  • Make sure donuts are completely cool before glazing to prevent the glaze from melting off.
  • You can substitute apple cider with apple juice if desired, but cider adds more flavor.
  • Store glazed donuts in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days for best freshness.
