Description

This 10-minute Cozy & Creamy Pumpkin Hummus recipe is the perfect autumn-inspired twist on traditional hummus. Combining chickpeas and pumpkin purée with warm spices like cinnamon, cumin, and a hint of cayenne, it delivers a rich, velvety dip that’s both comforting and flavorful. Ideal for serving with pita chips, fresh veggies, or sliced fruits, this pumpkin hummus is easy to prepare in a food processor and makes an excellent appetizer or snack for fall gatherings.

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 15-ounce can chickpeas, drained and rinsed
  • 1 15-ounce can pumpkin purée (not pumpkin pie filling)
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced or grated
  • ½ lemon, juiced
  • ⅓ cup tahini
  • 1 tablespoon pure maple syrup
  • 1 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 1 teaspoon ground cumin
  • ¾ teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • pinch cayenne pepper
  • ¼ cup olive oil
  • ¼ cup ice water

For Serving (Optional)

  • extra olive oil
  • pomegranate arils
  • toasted pepitas
  • finely chopped fresh rosemary
  • sliced apples
  • sliced carrots
  • pita chips
  • root veggie chips

Instructions

  1. Prepare the hummus base: Add the drained and rinsed chickpeas, pumpkin purée, and minced garlic to the bowl of a food processor. Pulse a few times to break the ingredients into smaller pieces, helping them blend evenly.
  2. Add seasonings and blend: Incorporate the lemon juice, tahini, maple syrup, kosher salt, ground cumin, ground cinnamon, and a pinch of cayenne pepper into the food processor. Turn it on and while it’s running, slowly pour in the olive oil, allowing the mixture to blend for 2 to 3 minutes. The consistency should be creamy but slightly chunky at this stage.
  3. Smooth out the texture: With the processor still running, slowly add the ice water one tablespoon at a time. Keep adding until the hummus reaches a smooth, creamy consistency that you prefer.
  4. Serve and garnish: Transfer the pumpkin hummus to a serving bowl. Drizzle with extra olive oil and garnish with your choice of toppings such as finely chopped fresh rosemary, pomegranate arils, or toasted pepitas. Serve alongside pita chips, sliced apples, sliced carrots, or root vegetable chips, and enjoy immediately.

Notes

  • Use pure pumpkin purée, not pumpkin pie filling, to avoid added sugars and spices.
  • Adjust the cayenne pepper to your preferred spice level; it adds a subtle heat to balance the sweetness.
  • Ice water is added gradually to achieve your desired hummus texture; add more or less as needed.
  • This hummus can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 4 days.
  • For a nuttier flavor, you can toast the chickpeas before using them, but it’s not necessary.
  • For a vegan-friendly recipe, ensure your tahini and maple syrup are pure and unprocessed.
