Description

The Cutest Hairy Bat Cookie is a Halloween-ready chocolate cookie shaped like bats, coated in sprinkles or coconut to look fuzzy, and finished with candy eyes for a spooky-cute effect. They’re soft, chewy, and perfect for festive fun.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

1/2 cup unsalted butter, softened

1/2 cup granulated sugar

1/2 cup brown sugar

1 large egg

1 tsp vanilla extract

1/2 cup milk or semi-sweet chocolate chips (optional)

Chocolate sprinkles or finely shredded coconut (for “hair”)

Candy eyes

Black food coloring (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  2. Whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, and salt in a bowl.
  3. Cream butter, granulated sugar, and brown sugar in a large bowl until light and fluffy.
  4. Beat in the egg and vanilla extract. Add black food coloring if desired.
  5. Gradually stir in the dry ingredients to form a soft dough. Mix in chocolate chips if using.
  6. Roll out dough on a floured surface to 1/4-inch thickness. Cut bat shapes with a cookie cutter (or stencil).
  7. Dip tops of cookies into chocolate sprinkles or shredded coconut, pressing gently so it sticks.
  8. Place cookies on baking sheet and press candy eyes into position.
  9. Bake 8–10 minutes until set. Cool completely on a wire rack before serving.

Notes

For extra softness, slightly underbake the cookies.

Crushed Oreos or tinted coconut make fun alternatives to sprinkles.

Premade cookie dough can be used to save time.

If no bat cutter, trace a bat shape on parchment and cut with a knife.

Kids can help press on candy eyes and add “hair.”
