Description

Chicken Sausage and Broccoli Orzo is a quick, creamy one-pot pasta dish made with sautéed chicken sausage, garlic, onions, and tender broccoli. The orzo cooks right in the pan with the broth, soaking up all the savory flavors for a cozy, weeknight-friendly dinner.


Ingredients

12 oz chicken sausage, sliced

1 cup orzo pasta

2 cups broccoli florets, chopped

1 small onion, finely chopped

2 cloves garlic, minced

2 1/2 cups chicken broth

1 tbsp olive oil

1/4 cup grated Parmesan cheese (optional)

Salt and pepper, to taste

1/4 tsp red pepper flakes (optional)


Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat. Sauté chopped onion until soft, about 3–4 minutes.
  2. Add garlic and sliced chicken sausage. Cook until the sausage is browned and fragrant, about 4–5 minutes.
  3. Stir in orzo and toast for 1 minute.
  4. Pour in chicken broth and bring to a simmer.
  5. Cook for 8–10 minutes, stirring occasionally to prevent sticking.
  6. Halfway through, add chopped broccoli and continue cooking until orzo is tender and most of the liquid is absorbed.
  7. Season with salt, pepper, and red pepper flakes to taste.
  8. Stir in Parmesan cheese if using, and serve warm.

Notes

Use spinach or kale instead of broccoli for variety.

Stir in cream or cream cheese for extra richness.

Use spicy chicken sausage for more heat.

Cherry or sun-dried tomatoes add color and flavor.

Use dairy-free cheese for a dairy-free version.
