Description

Caramel Apple Crumble Bars combine the best of apple pie and buttery crumble in an easy-to-make dessert bar. With a tender spiced apple filling, gooey caramel, and a golden oat topping, these bars are perfect for fall or any time you crave something cozy and sweet.

Ingredients

1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour

1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats

3/4 cup brown sugar

1/4 cup granulated sugar

1 tsp ground cinnamon

1/2 tsp baking soda

1/4 tsp salt

3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted

3 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 3 medium apples)

1 tbsp lemon juice

1 tbsp cornstarch

1/2 tsp cinnamon (for apples)

30 soft caramels

2 tbsp heavy cream

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
  2. In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
  3. Press two-thirds of the crumble mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
  4. In a separate bowl, toss chopped apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, and cinnamon until well coated. Spread evenly over the crust.
  5. In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt soft caramels with heavy cream until smooth. Pour evenly over the apple layer.
  6. Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
  7. Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling.
  8. Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.

Notes

Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble for extra crunch.

Use pears instead of apples for a twist.

Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for a salted caramel version.

Use a gluten-free flour blend and certified GF oats for a gluten-free option.

Bars slice better after chilling for an hour or more.
