Ingredients
1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 cups old-fashioned oats
3/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup granulated sugar
1 tsp ground cinnamon
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/4 tsp salt
3/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
3 cups peeled and chopped apples (about 3 medium apples)
1 tbsp lemon juice
1 tbsp cornstarch
1/2 tsp cinnamon (for apples)
30 soft caramels
2 tbsp heavy cream
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C) and line a 9×13-inch baking pan with parchment paper.
- In a large bowl, mix flour, oats, brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt. Stir in melted butter until crumbly.
- Press two-thirds of the crumble mixture into the bottom of the prepared pan to form the crust.
- In a separate bowl, toss chopped apples with lemon juice, cornstarch, and cinnamon until well coated. Spread evenly over the crust.
- In a saucepan or microwave-safe bowl, melt soft caramels with heavy cream until smooth. Pour evenly over the apple layer.
- Sprinkle the remaining crumble mixture on top.
- Bake for 30–35 minutes or until golden brown and bubbling.
- Let cool completely in the pan before slicing into bars.
Notes
Add chopped pecans or walnuts to the crumble for extra crunch.
Use pears instead of apples for a twist.
Sprinkle flaky sea salt on top for a salted caramel version.
Use a gluten-free flour blend and certified GF oats for a gluten-free option.
Bars slice better after chilling for an hour or more.
